Nestled deep in the forests of Matsumoto, Nagano, Tobira Onsen Myojinkan began as a healing hot spring retreat in 1931. Today, it continues to offer a restorative experience in perfect harmony with nature. Said to be the setting of the Japanese myth Amano-Iwato, the inn blends into its lush surroundings, welcoming guests into a space of both physical and emotional healing.

The heart of Myojinkan is Tobira Farm, a pesticide-free, in-house farm that has supplied the inn with fresh, local vegetables for nearly 90 years. Meals highlight the rich bounty of Nagano’s seasons—especially traditional and highland produce. Organic kitchen waste is composted and returned to the soil, creating a sustainable loop of nourishment and care.

Myojinkan is also committed to reducing its environmental footprint. It runs on hydroelectric power from Chubu Electric Power, uses low-flow showers and air-cooling systems, and supports EV charging as well as shuttle services from public transport stations.

In the open-air baths, surrounded by the sounds and scents of the forest, you’ll find a stillness that quietly lifts the weight from your shoulders.
